SIR WALT'S LIQUEUR -
The Tower of London's Great Cordial

Hayman Distillers has brought history alive with the recreation of the original recipe that Sir Walter Raleigh concocted whilst imprisoned in the Tower of London. Known as "The Great Cordial", the original recipe was believed to have been lost, but recently it was rediscovered by Hayman Distillers. Over 30 herbs, spices and essential oils, together with the skills of our master blender faithfully recreate a product of exquisite taste and subtle nuance.

At the beginning of the 17th Century The Great Cordial was considered to have healing properties, and whilst we would not make such claims today, if consumed in moderation, Sir Walt's has the capacity to lift the spirits.

Bottled at a strength of 65% and 40% abv, Sir Walt's Liqueur is in the Absinthe category. It is best served neat and chilled, but is equally good when served as a long drink with Ginger Ale, Tonic Water or Lime Juice. In the gardens of the Tower of London, Raleigh grew a variety of herbs and spices, many of them originating from plants he had brought back from the New World. By combining his alchemic and botanical experiments, he was able to produce the famous Great Cordial.
Whilst the recipe is a closely guarded secret The Great Cordial includes, among many others, the following original ingredients :

Fresh Rosemary Leaves
Peppermint leaves
Juniper Berries
Orange and Lemon Peel
Hyssop
Gentian Root
Ginger
Nutmeg
Saffron
Marjoram
Cardamom
Cinnamon
Black pepper
